''The Last Night of the Earth Poems'':

όταν ήμασταν παιδιά

υπήρχε ένα περίεργο σπίτι

όλα τα στόρια ήτανε

πάντοτε

κατεβασμένα

και ποτέ δεν ακούγαμε φωνές

εκεί μέσα

και η αυλή ήτανε γεμάτη

μπαμπού

και μας άρεσε να παίζουμε

στα μπαμπού

κάναμε

τον Ταρζάν

(παρόλο που δεν υπήρχε

Τζέιν).

και υπήρχε μια

γούρνα με ψάρια

μια μεγάλη γούρνα

γεμάτη απ” τα

πιο παχιά χρυσόψαρα

που έχετε δει ποτέ

και ήτανε

ήμερα.

ερχόντουσαν στην

επιφάνεια του νερού

και παίρναν κομμάτια

ψωμιού

απ” τα χέρια μας.

Οι γονείς μας μάς είχαν

πει:

«ποτέ μην πάτε κοντά σ” αυτό το

σπίτι.»

έτσι, φυσικά,

πήγαμε.

αναρωτιόμασταν αν

έμενε κανείς εκεί.

οι εβδομάδες περνούσαν και

ποτέ δεν είδαμε

κανέναν.

τότε μια μέρα

ακούσαμε

μια φωνή

απ” το σπίτι

«ΚΑΤΑΡΑΜΕΝΗ

ΠΟΥΤΑΝΑ!»

ήταν μια αντρική

φωνή.

τότε η

πόρτα

του σπιτιού

άνοιξε με δύναμη

και ο άντρας

βγήκε

έξω.

κρατούσε ένα

πέμπτο του ουίσκι

στο δεξί του

χέρι.

ήταν περίπου

30.

είχε ένα πούρο

στο

στόμα του,

χρειαζόταν ξύρισμα.

τα μαλλιά του ήταν

άγρια και

αχτένιστα

κι ήταν

ξυπόλυτος

με τα εσώρουχα

αλλά τα μάτια του

ήταν

φωτεινά.

φλέγονταν

από

λάμψη

και είπε,

«Έι, μικροί

κύριοι,

περνάτε καλά,

ελπίζω;»

ύστερα έβγαλε ένα

μικρό γέλιο

και πήγε

πίσω στο

σπίτι.

φύγαμε,

πήγαμε πίσω στην

αυλή των γονιών μου

και το σκεφτήκαμε.

οι γονείς μας,

αποφασίσαμε,

μάς ήθελαν

να μείνουμε μακριά

από εκεί

επειδή

ποτέ δεν μας ήθελαν

να δούμε έναν άνθρωπο

έτσι,

ένα δυνατό γνήσιο

άνθρωπο

με

όμορφα

μάτια.

οι γονείς μας

ντρέπονταν

που δεν ήτανε

σαν κι αυτόν

τον άνθρωπο,

γι” αυτό μας

ήθελαν να

μείνουμε

μακριά.

αλλά

πήγαμε πίσω

σ” αυτό το σπίτι

και τα μπαμπού

και τα ήμερα

χρυσόψαρα.

πήγαμε πίσω

πολλές φορές

για πολλές εβδομάδες

αλλά ποτέ

δεν είδαμε

ή ακούσαμε

ξανά

τον άντρα.

τα στόρια ήτανε

κατεβασμένα

όπως πάντα

και ήτανε

ήσυχα.

τότε μια μέρα

καθώς γυρίζαμε απ” το

σχολείο

είδαμε το

σπίτι.

ήτανε καμένο

ολοσχερώς,

δεν είχε μείνει

τίποτε,

μόνο ένα σιγοκαίων

σπειροειδές μαύρο

θεμέλιο

και πήγαμε

στη γούρνα με τα ψάρια

και δεν υπήρχε

νερό

μέσα

και τα παχιά

πορτοκαλιά χρυσόψαρα

ήτανε νεκρά

εκεί,

να στεγνώνουν.

πήγαμε πίσω στην

αυλή των γονιών μου

και μιλήσαμε

γι” αυτό

και αποφασίσαμε πως

οι γονείς μας είχανε

κάψει το

σπίτι τους ολοσχερώς,

τους είχαν σκοτώσει

είχαν σκοτώσει τα

χρυσόψαρα

επειδή ήταν

όλα πάρα πολύ

όμορφα,

ακόμη και το δάσος με τα μπαμπού

είχε καεί.

είχαν

φοβηθεί

τον άνθρωπο με τα

όμορφα

μάτια.

και

φοβόμασταν

έκτοτε

πως

σ” όλη τη ζωή μας

πράγματα όπως αυτό

θα

συνέβαιναν,

πως κανείς

δεν ήθελε

τον οποιονδήποτε

να είναι

δυνατός και

όμορφος

όπως αυτό,

πως

άλλοι ποτέ δεν θα

το επέτρεπαν,

και πως

πολλοί άνθρωποι

θα “πρεπε να

πεθάνουν.

#.“Mbwana and his best friend Juma are two young men with big dreams. These dreams become reality when they photograph a gigantic fish leaping out of the sea and their small town blossoms into a tourist hot-spot as a result. But for Mbwana, the reality isn’t what he dreamed – and when he meets the fish again, both of them forgotten, ruined and old, he decides only one of them can survive.”

#.''Ιt is about dreams and reality, dreams are always promising but in reality results may be rather negative. so here we have two young people living somewhere in north africa i guess, who are dead bored of their village. they live in a villiage without much to do. they aspire to have monumental attractions such as buckingham palace or taj mahal in their villige, and lots of tourists, and fun. these dreams become reality when they photograph a gigantic fish leaping out of the sea and their small town blossoms into a tourist hot-spot as a result. with swarming commercial and un-controlled tourism purity of their natural environment and community gets corrupted. the fish symbolises first their dream (magnaficent and pure) then reality (monstrous and corrupted). in the final encounter between the once a magnificent wonder of nature now a toxic giant fish and once a promising dreamer now a wanderer hobo, fish eliminates man. nature and man are one but if it comes to such a point of confrontation for survival man has little chance compared to nature''

 ''Chinti''

-AN INDEPENDENTLY MINDED ANT DEFIES HIS COLONY AND DEDICATES HIS LIFE TO PURSUING HIS DREAMS.

Chinti is a delightful animated parable following the life and desires of an independently minded ant. The ant lives and works with his family on a narrow trash-filled shore. He works with a colony of ants, but finds it increasingly difficult to cope with the overly structured and, what is to him, an unfulfilling and meaningless life. Within the rubble, he encounters a photo of the Taj Mahal and becomes completely mesmerized by the beauty of the structure. He dreams of one day viewing the Taj Mahal in all its glory, but without knowing where it’s located or how to get there, he dedicates his life to building his dream for himself.

Visually, Chinti is truly a beautiful piece of artistry. Natalia Mirzoyan utilizes a wide variety of tea leaves to create the film. The textures and patterns of the tea leaves creates a painterly three dimensional landscape that appears visually tactile, making it easy to imagine what it would be like to experience it directly.

The great level of detail used to create these landscapes is truly remarkable. Every piece of trash seen in the film is not only perfectly contoured, but also carries an identifiable history we can readily imagine. Cans have believable markings and dents. Apples have the appropriate amount of discoloration. We recognize brands and are familiar with the usages of everything we see. In some ways we become excited and lost in the complex simplicity of the textures as objects, and in other ways we become oddly aware of our own wastefulness. And what’s most fascinating is the clever reappropriation of these objects the ant uses to fulfill his dream.

How natural and organic the film appears works very well in conjunction with the parabolic nature of the piece. The film takes you back in time and to another world that can only be referenced by the experience of viewing illustrations in a children’s book while it’s being read to you. By the end of the film, a distinct lesson and a deeper meaning has been conveyed, and the simplicity of the lesson itself is familiarly refreshing.
