Μπουράκ Μπεγκντίλ:  Πόσο σίγουρα η Τουρκία πολεμάει το Ισλαμικό Κράτος; Το Ισλαμικό Κράτος αποτελεί τον πρώτο στόχο όλων των δημοκρατικών κρατών, από την στιγμή που έχει καταλάβει μεγάλες εδαφικές εκτάσεις σε Ιράκ και Συρία. Οι ΗΠΑ και οι σύμμαχοί τους πολεμούν ανοικτά εναντίον του. Το αυτό, θεωρητικά, πράττει και η σύμμαχος των ΗΠΑ στο ΝΑΤΟ Τουρκία. Στην πραγματικότητα τα η κατάσταση είναι διαφορετική, ειδικά από τις αρχές του τρέχοντος έτους. Πληροφορίες πως οι τζιχαντιστές κυκλοφορούν ελεύθερα μέσω του τουρκικού εδάφους και στρατολογούν στις τουρκικές πόλεις βλέπουν συχνά το φως της δημοσιότητας. «Δεν αποτελεί μυστικό πως η Τουρκία αποτελεί γόνιμο έδαφος για τη δράση των τζιχαντιστών. Η Τουρκία δηλώνει πως πολεμά το ΙΚ. Ίσως και να το πράττει, αλλά το πράττει περιστασιακά και απρόθυμα», δήλωσε πρέσβης χώρας της ΕΕ στην Άγκυρα. Ο Burak Begdil είναι ένας προικισμένος Τούρκος δημοσιογράφος. Δημοκράτης, κοσμικός και αντίπαλος του θρησκευτικού φανατισμού, φορέας παιδείας, πνεύματος και δεξιοτεχνίας στον χειρισμό της γλώσσας –και της αγγλικής. Οσοι παρακολουθούν τον τουρκικό Τύπο (στις αγγλικές εκδόσεις) θα πρέπει να έχουν διαπιστώσει, απολαμβάνοντας τη στήλη του στη «Χουριέτ», την διαφορά ποιοτικού αναστήματος από πολλούς συναδέλφους του.  Ο Μπουράκ Μπεγκντίλ διέγνωσε νωρίς την εξουσιαστική βουλιμία και ολοκληρωτική νοοτροπία του Ερντογάν και την υπέβαλε σε συνεχή δοκιμασία με τα δηλητηριώδη δήγματα του αιχμηρού βρετανικού χιούμορ του, αψηφώντας το τότε δημόσιο αίσθημα.  Με την αποχαλίνωση όμως των σουλτανικών παρορμήσεων του αρχηγού του ΑΚΠ τα τελευταία χρόνια και το καθεστώς τρόμου που έχει επιβάλει στον Τύπο, ο Μπουράκ Μπεγκντίλ ξεχώρισε επίσης σε επαγγελματική ηθική ακαμψία και ανδρισμό. For Turkey, this was always going to be a difficult game of manipulation on a global scale. Unsurprisingly, it is getting harder and harder by the day.  It was even enormously problematic in the start. How would Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan convince Turkish and world public opinion that he had nothing but humanitarian concern in pushing for war with Syria when he had befriended the Butcher of Sudan, Omar al-Bashir, helped the American invasion of Iraq in which more than one million Muslims were killed, and carefully avoided uttering one single word on the brutal oppression of pro-democracy Shia masses in Bahrain? Recently, Mr. Erdoğan claimed that “ tens of hundreds of people are being killed every day in Syria.” Mathematically speaking, that makes at least a thousand deaths on a daily basis, or at least 30,000 in one month, or at least 360,000 in a year. Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan claims that his governance has pushed the Turkish economy into the elite league of the world’s top (G-) 20. Few Turks know that the Turkish economy was in the top 20 before his party came to power, but Mr. Erdogan plays a very smart game: Make the Turks feel imperial again. The industry manufacturing weapons, which has always miraculously appealed to the Turkish male heart, was the perfect start. We are to make our own fighter jet, drones, aircraft carriers, spaceships, tanks and even a missile with a range of 2,500 kilometers. All that would happen before we could design, develop and manufacture an all-Turkish car and while Turkish scientists were still debating how to produce an “Islamic bicycle” – probably a bicycle that refuses to pedal if the cyclist has drunk alcohol or eaten pork.  We do not yet have the world’s finest football teams like Barcelona and Manchester United, but we have a national carrier that sponsors both Barcelona an
